Emerald Ensemble is Bristol's professional chamber orchestra, and is renowned for its accessible, passionate, warm and virtuosic performances. The group holds a pivotal position in South West music, presenting eighty events per year in the region's major venues.  Formed in 1994 by Roger Huckle, Emerald is a musicians' collective, bringing together the best of the region's performers.

The group regularly works with outstanding international artists and soloists, including Julian Lloyd-Weber (cello), Emma Kirkby (soprano), James Bowman (countertenor), Emma Johnson (clarinet), Pee Wee Ellis (saxophone), Victor-Hugo Villena (Argentine bandoneon), and Principal players of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.

Additional highlights include the Eclectia concert series in partnership with Bristol Cathedral, and the outdoor summer concerts at Bristol Zoo in association with St George's.  Emerald presents annual subscription series for Henleaze Concert Society and Nailsworth, and regularly accompanies the Bristol Choral Society at Colston Hall. In August 2007 Emerald represented Bristol in its twin city of Hannover with a well received concert of English and German music.

Known for its versatility and flexibility, Emerald can transform to suit most live music occasions and clients.  The group's innovative outreach and education projects include percussion and creative music workshops with the City Academy in St George, music workshops with elderly clients, a music theatre / cabaret project with Bristol Cathedral School, a City of Bristol College photography project, and Nottingham's Magdala Opera workshops.

Multi media projects include Bristol composer Martin Kiszko's A Radius of Curves for the 2006 Brunel 200 anniversary celebrations, and the 2005 Vivaldi Four Seasons Fantasia in partnership with independent producers Focus Productions, the BBC Motion Picture Gallery, leading Bristol-based graphic designers, Granada TV and Aardman. Emerald also records for TV, film, advertising and CD projects, and has released six of its own CDs.
